From SSBM Wiki: Ledge-canceling (also known as edge canceling) is an advanced technique present in all games in the Super Smash Bros. series. It involves players sliding off a ledge (platform or stage ledge) either during landing lag or during a special move to cancel the animation. Ledge-canceling moves grants players opportunities for more movement options, making moves safer, and for granting followups in situations where a move normally would not have combo potential.

Farore’s Wind – Edge Cancels
Edge cancelling Farore’s makes the move into an extremely fast and powerful gap closing and chase tool, however the tolerance to land edge cancels is extremely small due to Zelda’s higher traction. Despite the high precision required, the payoff is immense as landing it can lead to more followups, safer recoveries, and better positioning. Farore’s Wind – Drift and Hover
Farore’s Wind maintains some of Zelda’s momentum, and is most apparent during double jump. Performing a double jump moving backwards or forwards, followed by an immediate Farore’s input, carries Zelda’s teleport startup in the direction of the double jump at a reduced speed. With this knowledge, you can take more evasive actions. Try starting a teleport to somewhere safer or quickly adjust your Farore’s position to make a sweet spot possible. Teleport drift also happens during fast fall. Start a fast fall, input Up-B, and the downward momentum will cause your teleport to drop faster. Teleport drift is also affected by other… continue

Ledgekick and Ribbonkick
An extremely powerful way to control edge space is with a an edge cancelled kick on the ledge, hereafter referred to as a ledge kick. It’s extremely low commitment and often nets a full stock while leaving your options wide open in the event that your initial kick does not connect, and taking no action grabs ledge. Worst case you overshoot edge and miss; you’re put into a recovery situation at the same… continue
